Cruel Muse Chapter Four

Ernesto let out a whistle. “When Val told me about this place, she said it would be a lot of work, but I must say, this is going to be more of a challenge than I expected.”

Val and her father walked through the foyer with Dorothea. Today, the lady of the house was clad in a tiered dress made of ivory colored silk, her hair braided into a long plait, gold gloves on her arms that would look more at home in an opera hall. “Money is no object,” she said. “I just want to see Ravenswood restored to its full glory.”

Dorothea winked at Val, whose blushing cheeks matched the color of her sensible cotton shirt. She wore black corduroy slacks and black and white oxford shoes. Her father had instructed her to wear more practical clothing for work, overall jeans and boots, but Val wanted to be stylish in front of Dorothea. After all, she was just as much Val’s Evangeline customer as she was Ernesto’s client. She made sure to put on her makeup with meticulous precision, with lipstick #22 “Feminine Fantasy” and eyeshadow #33 “Lilac Dreams.”
